On Wednesday night, March 19, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in a conference room at Wachovia Bank, Mercy Baptist Church was founded. Our church grew out of the vision the Lord had given to our pastor, Rev. Johnny J. Hollis, Jr. Our name, “Mercy” was chosen by a majority vote of the congregation.
The first worship service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Easter Sunday morning at The Embassy Suites preceded by a fellowship breakfast at the Embassy. Easter service was awesome in every way. Pastor Hollis brought the Word from Mark 16:4-5 with the subject “God Always Tempers Our Turbulence.” Pastor Hollis gave us the following four points on how God tempers our turbulence:With a message of peace.
To be used of God to fulfill the command of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by sharing His love for the world through the preaching of the Gospel and teaching of the Word of God, the Bible;
To minister to the needs of our community by showing our sincere concern for their spiritual need;
To offer a Christo-Centric Ministry of Christian Education emphasizing the absolute authority of the Bible in matters of faith and practice, including a comprehensive discipleship training program;
To promote programs including; Married Couples ministries, Singles ministries, Children ministries, Youth programs, Music ministries, Tutorial ministries and other areas of ministry for the encouragement of Christian fellowship;
To stimulate activity and involvement between members of our congregation to aid in Christian growth and maturity;
To share the burden and vision for world missions through the endorsement, and cooperative support of God – called and church – sent missionaries;
To seek for the salvation of all men by means of evangelism outreach and personal discipleship, for the purpose of equipping new believers to assist them in their new walk with Jesus Christ, through His church.
